Liberia Chamber of Mines outlines regulatory reform and geological data drive ahead of AMW 2026

Liberia Chamber of Mines President Amara Kamara set out on 28 July how regulatory reforms, improved geological data, and new investment across iron ore, gold, and critical minerals could reshape the country's mining sector, in remarks published ahead of African Mining Week 2026 in Cape Town. Liberia has among the least-explored geology on the continent and has stated an ambition to geomap approximately 80% of its territory to attract exploration capital, positioning itself within the continental surge in national geological survey programmes. The country's iron ore endowment is its established resource base, but the critical minerals framing reflects a deliberate repositioning toward the commodity classes now attracting concessional and strategic capital from both Western and Chinese sources. For exploration investors, Liberia represents genuine frontier optionality, though the regulatory reform agenda will need to demonstrate durability across political cycles before institutional capital commits at scale.
