Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. This site uses cookies set by Squarespace, the platform it runs on, and nothing else: no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers. Our Privacy Policy explains the legal basis for each use.

Cookies the site needs to work

These are set without consent because the site does not function without them (§ 25 (2) TDDDG).

  • crumb: Protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Lifetime: Session.

  • RecentRedirect: Prevents redirect loops. Lifetime: 30 minutes.

  • Test: Checks that your browser accepts cookies. Lifetime: Session.

  • ss_performancecookiesAllowed: Remembers your answer to the cookie banner. Lifetime: 30 days.

  • ss_marketingcookiesAllowed: Remembers your answer to the cookie banner. Lifetime: 30 days.

  • squarespace-announcement-bar, squarespace-popup-overlay: Remember that you dismissed a banner or pop-up. Lifetime: persistent.

  • Locked, SiteUserInfo, SiteUserSecureAuthToken, siteUserCrumb: Only set if you log in to a password-protected or member area. Lifetime: session to three years.

Analytics cookies (only with your consent)

Squarespace Analytics counts visitors and sessions so that we can see which pages are read. These cookies are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change your answer at any time through the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer.

  • ss_cid: Identifies a unique visitor. Lifetime: 2 years.

  • ss_cvr: Identifies a unique visitor. Lifetime: 2 years.

  • ss_cpvisit: Identifies a unique visitor. Lifetime: 2 years.

  • ss_cvisit: Tracks a session. Lifetime: 30 minutes.

  • ss_cvt: Tracks a session. Lifetime: 30 minutes.

Other storage

The Daily Pulse page keeps the issues it has just loaded in your browser's session storage for ten minutes so that switching between streams does not reload them. This is not a cookie, stays on your device and is cleared when you close the tab. If you register for the archive, the page also keeps a note in your browser's local storage that you have registered, so that earlier issues stay open on that device. This is not a cookie either, holds no personal data and stays until you clear your browser data. The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA, which may set a cookie ("_grecaptcha") when the form is displayed; see the Privacy Policy, section 6.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can set your browser to refuse all or some cookies or to alert you when a website sets one. If you block the cookies the site needs to work, forms and the cookie banner may not function.
